Deep Cleaning Your Outdoor Areas

Updated: Mar 27

a stunning back yard patio and eating area, well cleaned and loved

Summertime means enjoying the breezy oceans, backyard barbeques, and summer fun! Whether you just celebrated for the 4th of July or hosted a cookout in the backyard, outdoor areas need cleaning too. Showcasing a beautiful patio or deck isn't the same if it's covered in leftover food crumbs or dirt and grime from shoes. Not to mention, ashes from fireworks if you celebrated the 4th at home! Here are some deep cleaning tips to help you maintain a clean space!

1. Clear Everything

The first step you need to take is clearing off your deck/patio. Take off the furniture, grill, and other accessories you have on the surface. This will allow for easier cleaning, instead of working around what is there.

2. Pressure Wash

Pressure washing your patio/deck is incredibly easy. Most people think it's difficult, but once you have the right machine, it takes no effort! Make sure you use a lower setting if you have a wooden deck, but a concrete patio uses a higher one. Start with a fan tip and begin about 12 inches from the surface. Use a brushing motion across the entire area to spray away grime.

3. Clean the Furniture

Furniture that sits outside collects dust, grime, and other dirt from the environment. Depending on the type of material you have, there are two ways to clean your patio furniture. Metal and plastic can be sprayed down with a hose, while wicker and softer woods need to be wiped down with a cloth or even a broom. Any time you perform an outdoor cleaning, you should sweep these off to avoid build-up.

4. Deep Clean Your Grill

Many of you most likely cooked out this past weekend to celebrate Independence Day (they are likely still dirty too!). This is a great time to deep clean your outdoor equipment including grills because one of the biggest barbeque holidays is over! Some build-up of food can add a bit of flavor (especially with charcoal grills), but once it develops too much of a layer, it can be hazardous to your health. Take out the grill shelves and spray them down with a natural cleaner (to avoid harmful chemicals), and then wipe them with water. If you have charcoal, you might want to throw it away to start fresh next time!

5. Tables and Umbrellas Need Love!

Don't forget to also wipe down your tables and umbrellas as well when you perform your outdoor cleaning! They will likely be dirty from food and other grime that the wind blows on them. Using soap and water easily deep cleans this area, or you can use a natural product on this as well.
