Cleaning and Storing Your Outdoor Areas for the Fall Season

Now that the breezy season of fall is rolling in, we need to store the outdoor summer set-up! Fall brings beautiful colors and perfect temperatures, but you no longer need your pool or other items. Most people still use their patios and hang out during this season. However, ensuring you properly clean and store everything that you won't be using is important.

In previous blogs, we discussed tips and tricks for deep cleaning your patios and pools. Make sure you deep clean these areas before you store anything away. This will ensure it will be ready when you pull it out for next summer! This saves you time and gives you one less thing to worry about when you want to layout and enjoy the sun.

Double Checking Everything

When you want to store your patio furniture and cushions, check to make sure they have been cleaned. Make sure no spiderwebs or debris has collected on the chairs, and the cushions are completely dry. This helps to make sure it won't mildew when you bring it back out. It's also important to clean your pool before you cover it for the winter. This will make it easier to begin treating it again when it gets warm.

Climate-Controlled Storage

Choosing a storage unit or area can be just as important as making sure it's clean. Some people have enough room to store in their shed, garage, or other areas. However, you can also choose to use climate-controlled self-storage. This will keep your furniture, cushions, and other items from molding or getting ruined while they are left. If you do store at your own home, be sure to have some type of climate control to minimize any damage.

Swapping out for Fall

Depending on what you have, some people will use their patio furniture year-round. If this is the case, just maintain a regular routine to clean the cushions and furniture. Most people will close their pools, and store their boats as well for the next summer. Fire pits and chimneys are common for many people during autumn and are great for sitting outside in the evenings when it gets chilly. Don't forget to scrub these down as well before you start using it consistently. That will eliminate any debris and dirt that might have collect in storage.

Proper Tools

One of the most important tools to have for fall is a leaf blower/rake. With the changing of the seasons, leaves will gather in your yards, driveways, and every outdoor area. Make sure you have a rake or leaf blower to regularly get rid of the leaves scattered throughout your area. If they are left on patios and other areas to sit and it rains, it can cause molding and other issues on wood.

Ultimately, it is easier to care for your outdoor areas during the autumn season. Aside from raking leaves, it is generally fewer items to worry about caring for in the fall. However, if you don't want to worry about cleaning these areas yourself, consider hiring a professional cleaner to take care of it for you.
